Ive been wanting to ride this bike for some time now and when the opportunity came up i jumped at the chance to experience what the Triumph Thruxton RS is all about.
For years as a kid i dreamt of riding that poster bike on my wall and when it arrive you should have seen the grin on my face. The latest Thruxton RS replacing the Thruxton R and the latest version comes in two colour options, Jet Black as the one loaned to me and pictured above, also their is a Matt Storm Grey / Silver Ice colour which is also stunning And pictured below. One colour i wish Triumph had kept was the Silver metallic that we have seen on its predecessor the Thruxton R, shame!.
Sitting on the bike with its 810mm seat i am flat footed at 6’2 tall and while the bike feels very slim its very comfortable, with that padded stock seat after riding this for a few hours i had no discomfort at all. I was a little concerned with the pressure on my wrists from the forward position but after an hour all felt ok too.
Now this is one of those bikes you could be sitting at a cafe having your morning coffee and just sit there looking at this stunning bike for hours, but its there to be ridden so lets through a leg over it and ride this bike, see how it performs.
Believe me it did not disappoint, the Engine comes with 103bhp and the 112nm torque is so low down in the rev range i found myself cruising through the twisty roads in a higher gear than normal due to the lovely ride by wire throttle and bags of torque to pull you out of the bends and fire you off at warp speed to the next one. The engine compared to the last R version has been reworked and now has a 20% reduction in Inertia making it spin up faster on the twist of that throttle. Power is also up 8ps over its predecessor.
Through the bends it soaked these up beautifully from the Showa 43mm Big piston forks, fully adjustable and the rear sporting twin Ohlins fully adjustable shocks!. Stopping was effortless too with it sporting Brembo M50 Monoblock Calipers on 310mm Brembo twin disks, and on the rear it has a 220mm disk with 2 piston Nissin Caliper.

The bike does feel easy to turn in despite its dry weight of 197kg, and with the stock Metzeler RR Tyres 120 front and 160 rear on 32 spoke Aluminium wheels, road holding is second to non and holds the road flowing through the bends with ease.
Seat options, you can get a comfort seat or a flatter dual seat for a passenger and under the seat is a USB charge port which is useful on todays modern bikes.
Accessories, Triumph have 80 to choose from and a couple i would definitely get would be the fuel tank leather strap to fit under the aluminium tank strap, also the nose cone and screen, make it look a true cafe racer!. But stock out of the box this bike is so well equipped.
The fuel range on a tank is approx 135miles from a 14.5litre tank and i love the detailed fuel gauge and it also tells you how many miles are left in the tank, wish all modern bikes had this option as standard, well done triumph.
It’s very hard to dislike anything on this bike as its so well made, i think for me as i get asked a lot on our youtube reviews over on our channel https://www.youtube.com/c/MOTOUK1 Can it be your only bike? Well the answer to that for me is no, this is a bike you pop down to the cafe on or a Sunday blast in the country side or a commute somewhere. But for long distance or touring, then due to it being a naked bike cafe racer styled and a slight sporty position then i would say not but some do 😆.
