2021 Triumph Trident Review

A look at the new 2021 Triumph Trident.


Initial thoughts when I first laid eyes on the new Trident we’re the styling and looks of this bike we’re so In keeping with that classic Triumph look that we all recognise and expect, but they have pulled off a totally new bike from ground up.

Ok so on first sight the bike looked well built as we have become to expect from this brand. The attention to detail is all there and ergonomics of the bike all are in the right place.


Engine and Chassis,

Riding the bike over the week, it was clear to me that the 660cc engine derived from the popular and well known 675cc motor and has been tweaked to produce a flat torque curve giving you that sweet power from low down in the Rev range all through the 6 speed transmission, the engine note through the under slung exhaust of the triple engine didn't disappoint with that distinctive whistle you get from a triple. An aftermarket system would make it sound even better though! The chassis is all new and doesn’t disappoint with the bike feeling so flickable through the twisting bends, this bike really handles well.



Suspension,

The bike comes with big piston front forks non adjustable. For my weight at 95kg it felt planted on the road and not bouncy through the corners, Triumph sure did a good job here for most rider weights. The rear shock is only adjustable for preload and feels firm but again on pushing hard through bends felt good and soaks up the bumps very well.


Instrumentation,

The all new Colour TFT Dash, did not disappoint. it’s circular design, in keeping with that classic retro look and feel was a real gem with a crisp and clear read out, Rev Counter, Speed, Gear Indicator, Fuel Guage, also Rain & Road Modes, and with the connectivity accessory it opens up things like mobile phone connectivity and navigation turn by turn. Definitely one of the best TFT displays I have seen on most modern bikes today.



Comfort,

The seat is very comfortable but the rear is very small and not ideal for passengers but is available with rear foot pegs also fitted. The ergonomics of the riding position coupled with that comfy seat is very good, upright seating position with an ok bend at the knee and not pushed forward. On long journeys the bike is super comfortable.

Tyres,

Very impressed with the Michelin Road 5’s that come as standard and together with these the road holding is superb, like on rails as they say.


Final Thoughts,

Ok so after riding this bike for a whole week, would I have one oh yes!. This bike really tick’s many boxes from a first time bike, A2 licence compatible and would make a good every day bike, commuter and the only down side for me was lack of any decent rear seat for luggage or rack option available from Triumph, however you can get aftermarket ones I see now becoming available. This is one very well made and rounded bike that will sell, well done Triumph 🙏 and thanks for the loan.
