Wow over 3 Years in and still loving this bike!😍.
So I bought this in October 2017, and I was looking for a one bike do it all. Having owned tourers like the Honda VFR800 and Yamaha Tracer, I was visiting my local dealers and I came across the MT10SP and my jaw dropped 😂. Funny how it was at that time a very peculiar looking machine with the weird headlight arrangement. But that didn’t stop me there an then put a deposit down and bought one.
The main things I liked in the SP over stock bike where the R1M paint scheme, the very bling Ohlins Suspension and the Colour TFT Dash, still rather new back then while most new bikes these days have these dashes.
Having picked it up and riding it home I knew within the first 5 miles I had made a good decision that day and was over the moon with my purchase, all I needed to do know was break the news to my wife I have bought yet another bike. 😂

After the run in mikes and first service, I immediately took the bike to Junction33 Developments to have a Woolich ECU dyno tune as these bikes run lean from the factory
and to smooth out those annoying fly by wire throttles. While there I had the full Woolich Racetools which consisted of UP & Down quickshifter, launch 🚀 control and pit Lane limiter not like I was going racing the thing but boys will be boys.
I then set to it adding some subtle accessories to put my mark on the bike like, rear seat cowl, belly pan, screen all colour coded from Pyramid Plastics https://pyramid-plastics.co.uk/collections/yamaha/bike-model_mt-10-sp#collection
other items were some crash protection from R&G and a J-Tech tail tidy. Oh and a SP-Connect phone mount with wireless charger for the bars. https://sp-connect.co.uk/?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiqWHBhD2ARIsAPCDzakIuphKmHMVucTxcWsBvv69HF6o9I2_qjOc1-FyUkp4
The bike runs lovely through town, on the twisty roads, on long motorway miles and with having cruise control makes a difference when crunching miles on some long tours.
Servicing, while I took it to the dealer for its first revive at 600miles, since then due to the fact it’s so easy being a naked bike I have done all the servicing myself.

Up to now I have had no issues with the bike other than the front brake switch fault which is covered under warranty and was a recall from Yamaha U.K. the build quality is superb and only other issues I hear but not had is the little tail winglets being kicked off as one through‘s a leg over the bike. I guess as I have the Yamaha rack on it covers that area so never been a problem. Can be fixed replacing the two plastic clips to number pate but and bolts to hold better.
For me I am so impressed with the bike it’s a keeper one I will never sell. 👍
Tires, as I do mostly longer rides I once used the oem stock Bridgestone S20’s which only lasted 2,500miles. I switched to Bridgestone T31’s which were epic giving 6,500miles and have recently switched to the new Pirelli Angel GT2, and going well with better feedback and feel.
Good Points,
Engine CP4
TFT Dash
Colour Scheme
Woolich Blipper, aftermarket accessory
Ohlins Suspension is Epic
Build Quality
The Sound OMG 😆
Bad Points,
Rear Winglets can be kicked off
Brakes, some upgrade pads for better feel
Fuel Econom, it’s thirsty but then it’s an R1 engine, well nearly
Likely to get arrested for wheelies as it’s a monster
