2021 Triumph Rocket 3 GT Review

Review video‘s First ride and spec, also last ride and final thoughts - Youtube Channel https://www.youtube.com/c/MOTOUK1

The Triumph Rocket 3GT, one of the finest motorcycles on the planet! Why do i say that well lets dig in…

So on receiving the Rocket 3GT from Triumph UK 🙏 rolling off the van i could see this motorcycle was a finished item and what i mean by that is everywhere i look on this bike the detail and craftsmanship are second to non.

Now why this is my first Cruiser ridden in some 30 years of riding motorcycles i was a little nervous of throwing my leg over what is the largest capacity motorcycle in production today at 2.5 litres engine and the highest torque of any production bike at 221Nm. All the nerves went away as soon as it rolled forward, you see the GT has forward leg position and i am used to the traditional foot peg position and riding style. I was presently surprised how comfy this position is as on some sport bikes i get achy knees.

While its heavy at 291kg dry, once rolling it feels very light and turns in very nicely, i must admit it took me a few hours to get comfortable so if your thinking of a test ride then ask the dealer for longer than an hour!

The engine, while being large is very smooth and manageable to say its got so much power and i found the throttle connection very smooth even through town.

While i list the spec below, i wanted to try to give a good opinion of a real review riding getting some miles on this bike so decided to take it on a 350 mile round trip to the MCN Festival, a mix of Motorway and A roads to really see what its like to live with.

On the Friday late afternoon i set off from Lancashire on the M6 fo half the journey, Never liked motorways but wanted to see how the bike was for wind blast as its a naked bike and while it has a small screen its not really designed for deflecting any wind but rather styling. I had hoped that it would adjust slightly and wished Triumph had made this happen as it really is my only negative on this machine.

I used cruise control which works seamlessly up to Liverpool anyway and then it was traffic city! So i needed to filter and while its a big bike, it filtered perfectly through the traffic no differently to any other bike. One thing is the weight is low down and i can go very slow and in control without feet down so the balance on this bike is just right.

At speeds up to 75mph the bike is one of the comfiest i have ridden for a while, the seat cups your back side and offers some resistance to sliding back which was nice given the power on this machine, and the legs forward is so nice, no more achy knees :) anything over 75mph and you are pushed back by wind and for a length of time found my hands being pulled on the bars.

Ok off the motorway on to the rolling hills through Melton Mowbray, this is where the bike came into its own, flowing left and right fast corners, the bike is incredible when you tip in pick your line and the bike just sticks, holds its line and a nice punch out of the corners from that awesome torque of the engine. The only thing i would say is on 1st gear roundabouts small ones its a little edgy to get round but easy to get used to in time.

In the 2 days i covered the 350 miles on a mixture of roads i was very pleased with this bike on looks, handling and every detail of the bike is top spec components all round. Even car drivers came over and admired the bike!.

Triumph really have created a masterpiece of a motorcycle here with no detail too small, i will miss this bike as its now gone back but hope to ride the Rocket 3 R soon to get a comparison on the riding position as everything else is the same or similar.
