2021 Triumph Bonneville T120

Updated: Aug 3, 2021

The Triumph Bonneville T120 is a true Classic.

Taking delivery of this motorcycle was like a dream come true after many of my younger years seeing these beautiful motorcycles passing by. I was recently very lucky enough to be lent one from Triumph UK, thanks 🙏.

If you’ve ready my other blog’s recently riding the latest Street Twin and the Bonneville T100, i was very taken with those bikes just how comfy and easy they were to ride everywhere, so i wanted a chance to put the T120 through its paces and see which one in my opinion is the best bike for me.

So all the Bonneville range bikes capture the similar look from the first one launched back in 1959. All bikes have that unique built quality we expect today from this British firm and now with the new range revised for euro 5 they all do not disappoint and Triumph have been busy reducing weight, and adding torque and horsepower to keep the Bonneville range at the top of its game.

On my first ride of this lovely looking T120 which comes in 3 colour schemes being Cordovan Red/Silver Ice, Cobaolt Blue/Silver Ice, Jet Black and they do also a Bonneville T120 Black series which you can get in Jet Black or Matt Jet Black / Matt Graphite colours. The Black series comes with Brown seat, Blacked out exhausts, wheels, bars, mirrors, mudguards and many other parts. This is the one for me if i were to dig deep in my own pockets as not a lover of chrome on bikes and i think the black series is very today.

Now while you can configure the bike on Triumphs Website which i think is a great tool here: https://www.triumphmotorcycles.co.uk/motorcycles/classic/bonneville-t120-2021/models You can also choose/configure a range of 116 different accessories in their parts catalogue.

With Prices starting from £10,800 for either model, you can pre configure your perfect ride before submitting it to the dealer network for your dream machine to built.

The T120 has so much torque low down in the rev range at 105nm @ 3500rpm and also 78.9bhp or 80ps @6550rpm which is so usable on the roads today and who needs more right.

The Engine is a liquid cooled, 8 valve, SOHC, 270 degree crank parallel twin.

Wheels are 32 spoke aluminium rimmed with 18inch front and 17inch rear and with that larger 18inch up front the bike turns in nicely to corners and holds the lines perfectly.

Suspension comes in the way of 41mm cartridge forks up front non adjustable and Twin RSU’s, with only pre load adjustment for when you want a pillion on board and with that awesome comfy rear seat why not.

Brakes are by way of twin 310mm discs with Brembo 2 piston floating Calipers with ABS up front and on the rear you have 255mm single disk with Nissin 2 piston floating Caliper also with ABS.

The twin clocks do not dissapoint and have lovely analogue speedo and tachometer and the twin lcd displays give you all the info you need like gear indicator, fuel gauge with how many miles left in the tank, average mileage, trip etc.

Fuel tank has a 14.5 litre capacity with 60.1mpg or 4.7l/100km

Weight now while its no lightweight, all the weight is low down and you feel the bike is actually lighter than the 236kg wet weight.

Seat height is 790mm and so comfy, you can get other seat options also from the extensive range from Triumph.

Service Intervals are now 10,000 miles/16,000 kn or 12 months, whichever comes first.

My final verdict on riding the Bonneville range Street Twin, T100 & T120 is that for the usage they would get in and out of town, rides out on weekends and trips not so long distance the T100 would fit perfectly for my needs with its 900cc engine which is more usable low down through towns and the country roads. I still have to test the new Speed Twin which i think may be the winner only my opinion let’s see. Stay tuned…
