2021 Suzuki Hayabusa Review

Suzuki Hayabusa, Ultimate Performance is the perfect balance between power and poise, and between the rider and the bike. Abundant power and torque in any gear and at any speed. Chassis and running gear for nimble handling to put the rider in full control. And all skilfully wrapped in a bold design with an aggressive stance that highlights its luxurious details

When Preston Motorcycles said they had a latest 2021 Hayabusa Demo, and i could have this bike for a few days i was over the moon!. I have admired the Busa of old for many years and even test ridden the bike a few times, however one thing that always put me off was the plastics and how the side panels either side of the tank up to the dash were Matt black and had noticed they looked cheap and fade easily in the sun. I’m being picky as usual but if your buying a bike you want it in your eyes to suit.

So on delivery of the motorcycle i was very pleased and think the latest styling makeover is amazing, they have hit the mark in what i think is a better looking bike all round.

The dash, well also think they knocked it out of the park here and one of the best dash boards on any bike from any manufacturer.

The engine, while slightly down on BHP and Torque, you would not notice though and is still the liner hyper bike she always was. Just now a little more Tourane low down in the rev range where you need it so overall i think the refinements are an improvement too. Rider aids it has them all.

The only issues i have is this bike is for a mile eating machine, why still putting the foot pegs so high as this makes for the taller rider it un comfy on long motorway miles.

After riding this beautiful machine for a few days, would i have one in my garage, thats a yes, but would it be the bike i choose for a short ride to the shops, thats a no. I would even say if its a grand tourer its just not equips for long days in the saddle and a modern adventure bike would be suited more. So which market are Suzuki aiming this bike at ? Still a great motorcycle but will this be the last Busa?

LEGENDARY POWER AND PUNCH

The Hayabusa’s 1,340cc liquid-cooled inline-four engine achieves an even better balance of overall performance, with greater efficiency and durability, while also satisfying Euro 5 emissions standards.

Inheriting the legacy of the Ultimate Sports Bike that established the category in 1999, the Hayabusa continues to deliver some of the highest torque and power at engine speeds typically used while road riding. A symbol of engineering pride and prowess, it is built to deliver the ultimate riding experience for the long run.

SUZUKI INTELLIGENT RIDE SYSTEM (SIRS)

Hayabusa adopts an advanced new version of the Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (SIRS) and a six axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU).A complete collection of electronic systems designed to optimise performance characteristics to match the needs of the moment and make the Hayabusa more controllable, predictable and enjoyable. Riders can opt for settings that best suit riding conditions, road surfaces and their level of confidence and experience.

MOTION TRACK TRACTION CONTROL

This technology is adopted directly from the traction control system Suzuki developed for the GSX-RR in MotoGP racing. This takes traction control to a new level by employing data from the IMU to constantly monitor the amount of lean angle and effectively limit slip in corners as well as on straights. It provides greater stability at all times, enabling confident control in varying riding conditions while reducing stress and fatigue. The system offers a choice of 10 mode settings, and it can be turned off when preferred. The higher number the mode, the faster traction control is engaged and the more proactive the system is in limiting wheel spin.

ENGINE BRAKE CONTROL

With three modes and an OFF setting, this system provides control over the effective strength of engine braking to match the rider’s preference. The higher the setting, the more the system provides the rider with smoother, more controllable behaviour by cancelling out the effect of engine braking to suppress rear tyre sliding or skipping when decelerating after releasing the throttle grip or downshifting.

ULTIMATE AERODYNAMICS

Aerodynamic performance is critically important on a motorcycle capable of reaching a top speed of 186mph. Extensive wind tunnel testing, full use of the latest Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) tools and years of experience all contribute to achieving refined styling with which the rider and bike become one wind-cutting missile. The Hayabusa features one of the best drag coefficients found on any street legal motorcycle, while also achieving excellent Coefficient of Aerodynamic Drag (CdA) and lift values to maximise top speed potential and stability at top speed. By any measure, Ultimate Performance is what the Hayabusa is all about.
